Our Story

Światło: “Light, to Illuminate” in Polish.
Swiatlo was born in New York City, inspiring the use of bold colors and prints between heavy black accents. Shortly afterwards we shifted our base to New DelhI, India to be with our supply chain.
Our collections are crafted by women-run workshops around the country from a mix of Gujaraiti+Rajasthani blockprints and upcycled textiles we find along the way.
Światło was founded by Pennsylvania native designer Liz Hartman in 2019. She earned her fashion BFA at Parsons then worked as a pattern-maker, sample sewer and technical designer at a variety of brands in New York including Kenneth Cole and Ralph Lauren's Club Monaco.
Liz traveled to Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 2016 searching for deeper meaning in making clothes beyond the sterile streamlined production of fast fashion. She fell in love with Indian handmaking culture and spent three years after that between tech design work in New York and studying textiles + fashion production in India. After starting Swiatlo Liz settled in India to work closely with the amazing tailors, printers, NGOs and all involved who breathe life into the work.
Światło pieces are special labours of love energetically infused by all who’ve had a hand in their making.
