Światło: “Light, to Illuminate” in Polish.
Our business was born in New York City, inspiring our use of vibrant colors blocked between heavy black accents. We spend most of the year living in India nurturing relationships with our supply chain of small stitching units and traditional craftspeople. Each piece is developed in close collaboration with them, to bring value and creative fulfilment to all involved
Our collections are crafted by women-run workshops in New Delhi from a mix of Indian artisan textiles and recycled fabrics. We source our blockprints directly from our printer friends in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Our post industrial + post consumer recycled fabrics are from factory floors, thrift street markets and friends gifting us their previously loved clothing.
Światło was founded in 2019 by Liz Hartman after she married her husband Ashwath, a Delhi native. Liz earned her BFA in IDC Fashion at Parsons in NYC then worked as a patternmaker and technical designer at Kenneth Cole and Ralph Lauren. After becoming disillusioned by fast fashion’s lack of handmade connection, Liz traveled to Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 2016 searching for substance. She fell in love with Indian craft + culture and moved to Delhi permanently. With an eye for color and pattern coordination coupled with experience in production management, Liz knows what fit and silhouette decisions to make herself and what creative calls should be made by the talented people who handcraft the garments. Światło pieces are special labours of love energetically infused by all who’ve had a hand in their making.
