This small-batch collection features handcrafted blockprint textiles stitched in nontraditional engineered panels of contrasting colors and alternate print motif size scaling.
India, along with most of the global south, is a polychronic culture whereas our hometown NYC is a monochronic culture. Polychronic cultures do many things at once; time is free-flowing with distractions and interruptions as an accepted part of life.
The study of time perception as well as the adjustment to a new culture from a vastly different one fueled the designer's inspiration for this collection. Is our relationship to time fully dependent on where we came from, and how does this affect our aesthetic preferences? POLYCHRONIC attempts to answer these questions merging eastern textile techniques in western silhouettes; eastern ideals of eco-conscious handmaking and folklore storytelling with western design pedagogy and elevated garment construction.
